What’s Your Favorite Comic Book Story?

A couple years ago, my wife started picking up some marketing work at Comic Con in San Diego.  She worked for Marvel one year and the SciFi Channel the following year.  As part of that experience, she discovered a whole world that she never really knew existed.  Recently, I found that this world stretches into our prominent #AVTweeps community as well, with quite a few attending comic con to chase down art, autographs, and other rare finds.  So with that, I offer up one of my favorite comic book stories.  I hope you enjoy it and I’d love to hear your favorites in the comments below.

Peter Parker was just your friendly neighborhood Spiderman.  Sure he had a slight subversive streak and liked to throw out one-liners while engaging in battle, but at the end of the day it was all in good fun.  I mean the enemies he fought were legitimately dangerous and he was just trying to help. Eventually, after some long and heated contests, his suit became a little tattered and he began to seek some new digs.  What he found was seemingly amazing.  A black suit that instantly clung to his body and seemed to enhance his powers and give him the rejuvenation he needed. Unbeknownst to him, the suit was from another world.  It was really an alien symbiote that ended up changing Parker, causing him to be a little darker than his nature inclined him to be.  Bystanders noticed a change in the webbed wonder.  Some found it alarming and others found it entertaining.  But over time, the suit began to actually leave him helpless and exhausted, even from the moment he awoke each morning. As Parker began to realize the suit’s goal was to override his will and accomplish it’s own agenda, he quickly had to find a way to shed himself of it.  The down side however was that the suit could not be contained and eventually found a new host in Eddie Brock. Parker felt bad that he was unable to contain the suit on his own, and inevitably had to engage with it and its new owner time and time again.  But he took solace in the fact that he was now back in his familiar red and blue garb, free again to be the phenomenal… I mean amazing… Spiderman.
